Special Olympics Bharat has been organising National Games in various disciplines since 2002. A total of 23,750 athletes have participated in the five National Games held between 2001 and 2011 in different parts of the country.

National Championship Basketball 2015

National Championship – Basketball was organized by Special Olympics Bharat-Gujarat at Navrachana Education Society, Sama Road, Vadodara, Gujarat on 19-23, March, 2015, wherein 8 states participated A total of 332 athletes along with 55 Coaches, 46 Officials, 35 Volunteers, 10 Trainer successfully participated. A long with Sports Activities sessions, various fun and entertaining event were also arranged to help Athletes experience joy and laughter. National Games 2002

The first Special Olympics Bharat National Games was marked by the longest Torch Run in the history of Special Olympics. The run was flagged off in New Delhi and covered over 20,000 kilometres across 29 cities. About 500,000 people took part in it. The event was held across India, from Pondicherry and Chennai in the south to Chandigarh and Delhi in the North and Ahmedabad in the West, reflecting the cultural diversity and integrity of the country.

National Games 2005

The Flame of Hope for the National Games 2005 was lit on April 11 in New Delhi by the then President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The Games was supported by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, President of Indian National Congress, Sonia Gandhi, and the then Cabinet Minister and film actor, the late Sunil Dutt. The Torch run covered 14 cities across India, traversing 12,000 kilometres. The same year also marked the launch of Special Olympics in Sikkim.

The National Floor Hockey Championship 2008 was held in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, in January. The Games was declared open by the then Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Vishnu SadashivKokje.

National Football & Table Tennis Championships 2009

The Flame of Hope was lit at Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial and the Torch Run saw the participation of 1,500 students from both special and regular schools. The championship was held between January 17 and January 22 at the Sports Authority of India Complex in Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium.

The National Volleyball & Basketball Championship 2009was held at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Pondicherry.
