Special Olympics world games are held every two years alternating between summer and winter across different global locations. Every day and all around the world, our athletes train and strive to achieve their very best. During the World Games, the entire Special Olympics movement comes together to see our athletes in action and celebrate their victories over huge odds. No other event in the world has the social and emotional impact of the Special Olympics World Games. For the athletes and their families, the experience opens doors to un-imagined possibilities. For volunteers, coaches, and other supporters from all parts of the world, the Games inspire hope and belief in a brighter future of global acceptance, understanding, and unity.
Between 1987 & 2023, 1456 Athletes & Unified partners from India have participated in 10 World Summer and 6 World Winter Games ,winning 520 Gold, 579 Silver and 602 Bronze Medals.
The talent is explored and identified by the wide network of Special Schools , SSAs and the Coaches, right from the grassroot levels. The Athletes are trained and assessed and encouraged to participate at local, district and state levels before reaching the National level and then a selection is made for the World Games . A structured process is followed to enable a befitting representation at the International level. The Selection Policy which is complied, is enclosed here
