The celebration of the World Environment Day helps us understand the importance of a healthy environment in maintaining our health, as well as in empowering the public to be active agents of sustainable and environmentally friendly development throughout the world!  It spreads the common understanding among people that their attitudes towards environmental issues need to be changed to ensure the possibility of a safer and more prosperous future, for everyone and every country.

The World Environment Day campaign is run by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), which is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. It is celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide! It was first established in 1972, but was only celebrated for the first time in 1973.

The World Environment Day is a campaign celebrated annually on the 5th of June, to inspire people worldwide to help prevent negative environmental changes.  This campaign was set up to focus on the state of the environment and to encourage people to play an active part in bringing positive changes to the environment, to ensure a safe future for our planet Earth.

We should keep all the objectives of this campaign in mind throughout the year and with these in mind, we should help the environment and our surrounding areas through plantation, sanitation, saving water, reducing electricity usage, consuming organic and local foods, etc. We only have one planet to live in- it is our home and solely we are responsible for maintaining its natural beauty.

Lets Remember!

Due to excessive pollution and global warming, the state of our environment is worsening day by day.  We must practice environment-friendly development to save our environment, in the hopes of a better future for our country and world. World Environment Day focuses on the conservation of our environment and the spreading of awareness of protecting and conserving it. Some things that we can do this World Environment Day on 5th June 2020, are:

  1. Plant more trees
  2.  Say no to plastic
  3. Help save and conserve our natural resources
  4. Help in the reduction of pollution!
