On Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day, SO Bharat ushered in a new group of Youth leaders, joining hands with Greater Valley School, Greater NOIDA, UP. 23 inquisitive and energetic students from classes 5 onwards volunteered to promote Social Inclusion.With an objective of promoting Inclusive education, the CENTRAL BOARD OF SECON
DARY EDUCATION (CBSE ) directs all its affiliated schools not to deny admission to Children with special needs to the mainstream schools. Greater Valley opened Saamarth, Special Wing promising more and more opportunities of interaction between persons with and without Intellectual disabilities.
The program began with an introduction of the legendary Eunice Kennedy Shriver, by Mrs. Poonam Chaubey, Principal, Greater Valley School. “You are becoming an important part of a great movement started by a great lady”, said Mrs Chaubey, “All of you are looking good in the red uniform. A uniform symbolises unity for a cause”.
Since this was the first program organized at the school, the youth leaders along with a few teachers were explain
ed about the Special Olympics Movement, the founder of the movement along with briefly discussing Intellectual disabilities. The presentation progressed through understanding expanse, recognition and nature of the Special Olympics Bharat, importance of Youth Engagement and ways of involving youth in schools. To carry forward the program independently, a team of
School representatives attended the session. The participants were briefed on planning events covering
key aspects of administration, Communications, Branding and financing.
Following distribution of Certificates 8 Athletes joined the group to attend a briefing session on Unified Cricket led by Nishant Sharma. Two Unified teams played Cricket going through exhilarating moments of winning the toss, batting, bowling, fielding and winning the match.
Youth leaders who attended the Session will make a presentation of the same to more students of the school. Events involving the Youth leaders will be planned on a regular basis for Saamarth, the Special Wing. A day of activities with the Special Wing with engagement of the Youth Leaders will be planned in consultation with SO Bharat.
